TODD A. KOVNER - S.A.G.

Uhhpfsh, let's see here...
1971 - born in Norfolk, Va.  October, 13.  Libra.

1980s - Ritalin wasn't around then, so my energy went into winning awards in theatre and sports and playing bass/singng in a few rock bands.

1990 - Went to James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. More bands, more theatre, and directed a cast of 22 in the world premiere of "The Libertine" by Robert Arthur.

1995 - graduation and migration to D.C.
Treplev in "The Seagull" at DCAC and "Homegirls" at Kennedy Center
- mostly waiting tables (except for that brief stint as a bike messenger that ended when I looked up from the cement to see the bottom of a fender), ran sound for Theatre X and Studio Theatre (Three Sisters).
Got lead role in an indie feature called floating, directed by Meredith Cole.
Formed and disbanded Channel12 with poet Daniel Pravda.

1996 - went X-Country with Dan for a month in July to determine where I'd end up. NYC won out over LA and Seattle (though now I'm longing for the West coast).

Since then I've been hitting the pavement in NYC. Worked as a waitron, coffeeboy, painter, wall-refinisher, photographer's assistant, video game tester, ad traffic monitor, web tester, bartender, and I was a security guard in an art warehouse for a day, not to mention doing promotional work for Lord of the Rings P1 and ELF (on NY1 and in the ToysRUs parade). Currently, Quality Assurance Engineer for the Award-winning interactive agency R/GA - projects include Nokia Nseries and L'Oreal Paris (but I'm not enough of a programmer to make my own site look decent ;) ).

I met my manager, Laurie Smith, at the Grey Dog on Carmine St. where my picture still hangs. She got me an audition for the Metropolitan Playhouse, where I became a member for a year and did a bunch of plays. She also hooked me up with another manager she knew and I signed with him for 3 years. Eventually, Laurie joined up with Tim Edwards to form Titan and called me up.

2000 - Many student films later, I was finally able to join SAG after doing Swimming; sharing the screen with pre-"Six Feet Under" Lauren Ambrose, Joelle Carter (American Pie II) and Jennifer Dundas Lowe.  I was in BEAT w/ Dan Pintauro in the NYC Fringe Festival, and most recently RICK (w/ Bill Pullman, et al.) under the very cool direction of Curtiss Clayton (most known for his editing of such films as Drugstore Cowboy, Buffalo 66, etc.).

2005 - A slow year, so I concentrated on getting the hang of the "business" side of this business, learning from mistakes and some good books. When not at work or looking for work, you can see me gigging with jr+sons around NYC, taking photographs, scribbling some poetry on a cocktail napkin, playing softball in McCarren Park, working out or just writing my own music at home with my cats. and some whiskey. aaaand this lamp, aaand this paddle game...

2006 - Taking more acting classes and auditioning. Feeling at the top of my game and ready for whatever comes.

2007 - got married and spent more time with music.

2008 - OK, this "slow period" has gone on too long. I need to be in some #$%^& movies.
